This page explains what we collect when you sign up for the newsletter or use this site, and what we do with it. In short: we only need your email address, we only use it to send the newsletter, and you can leave at any time.
Elixir Community is run by Tomasz Tomczyk, who is the controller of newsletter personal data. Questions about your data go to [email protected].
The newsletter
- What we collect: your email address.
- Why: to send you the newsletter. Our legal basis under UK GDPR is your consent.
- Double opt-in: after you sign up, we send a confirmation email. You get no newsletter until you confirm.
- Leaving: every email has an unsubscribe link. Using it withdraws your consent.
Where your email is kept
Your email address, contact record and consent status are kept in Plunk, which also sends our emails.
Plunk tracks when our newsletter emails are opened and when links in them are clicked.
How long we keep it
We keep your contact while you are subscribed, and after that only as long as needed to respect your unsubscribe. If you never confirm, your pending contact may stay in Plunk until we remove it by hand. You can ask us to delete your data at any time.
Confirmation links
Confirmation links work for 24 hours. Pressing Confirm in that time subscribes the address the link was sent to, even if it was unsubscribed in between. Links stop working once we delete a contact.
This website
Cloudflare hosts the site. We use it for three things, none of which set cookies:
- Visitor statistics: Cloudflare Web Analytics gives us totals for visits, page views and performance.
- Bot protection: Cloudflare Turnstile checks newsletter signups for bots and abuse. To do that it looks at technical details of your browser and network. See Cloudflare's Turnstile privacy addendum.
- Link clicks: when you click a link to another site, we count it. We store the link address (without its query string), the page you were on and the time, for three months. Nothing that identifies you is stored.
Outside the UK
Cloudflare and Plunk process data for us, and some of it happens outside the UK and EEA. Cloudflare runs a global network. Plunk stores data in the EEA and sends email through Amazon SES, which can process data in other countries. See the Cloudflare and Plunk privacy policies.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of your data, or send it to you in a portable format
- correct it
- delete it
- limit how we use it
Some of these rights only apply in certain cases. You can also withdraw your consent at any time. To do any of this, email [email protected]. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
Changes
If what we collect changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
